Just wondering what I should be mating my Bobdown cows and yearlings to.
Must be high APR.

I would be looking to increase chest capacity/depth on Bobdown daughters, choosing better cell count bulls and avoiding any Botans (sire of bobdown) genetics. Of the top Australian Proven bulls ARBbonjovi would be an ideal mating to BOBdown daughters or see if you can get your hands on any VESTdelta. (Does anyone have any available VESTdelta they would like to sell ?) Of the Overseas aussie red proven bulls, ASMO tossiko and R Bangkok both have chest width/capacity, great cell counts and are new genetics with really high predicted APRs.

I have already joined the cow to bonjovi. I don't use any bulls with holstein content in the first 3-4 generations. I might join the hefiers to a new bull coming up in the spring if i think he will be high enough. Bonjovi is ok but would like to see him higher in protein kg's.

If you dont want any Holstein content, Asmo Tossiko might work really well. Also, Juby 1617 has no holstein in him and has worked well in our herd, just dont mate him to anything that is not free milking. Our top milking heifer this year is by Juby. ARBjim also adds plenty of protein, good cell counts, but the deeper udders might not suit bobdowns.

looks like bonjovi is going to get a big run on all the bobdown daughters now.
