in talking about the question about two breeds in the one show ring, get your society to put a formal letter to ours, it would be taken to federal council in october and discussed. in my opinion it should get supported.
Thats how we Get this show on the road.

One of the attractions of the Aussie Red breed to me was the lack of show ring participation. We should hold true to our beliefs of what a cow should look like. If we get too caught up in the show ring we will just be like all the other breeds and get too influenced by all the North American judges that come out here and start having the same problems like fertility and bcs that we don't need in our breed.

Probably the most sensible thing put forward in years is an amalgamation of to societies is awesome. The major stigmatism of how you go about this comes down to ones own personal pride in how, what and why an individual red breeder chooses to breed his herd of cows. The perception of pulling ones head out is the key issue of how to deal with pride. The Illawarra society has been down the track of opening up our genetic base to the best red genetics from around the world including Holsteins and Scandinavian reds. The Red Holstein breed such suffers from a major profitability issue in own identity. Most North American Holstein breeders who have Reds are trying to breed cows that would win World Dairy Expo, not profit based ideas of fertility, milk and components. To say that the Aussie Reds haven't moved forward faster than any other red breed would also be also be wrong. I have milked Aussie Reds that have had temperament issues. I have milked Holstein cows with fertility problems and have headed down the track of pursuing to breed Holstein cows down the APR line but not at the expense of functional type. Steve has said that the two breeds are so far apart in breeding objectives which must say is completely wrong. Each breed has at it's base a core group of breeding cow which are profitable, efficient producers, good temperament, fertile and functional type cows. The Beaulands herd which I have milked has gained in so many ways from the use of bulls like Fynaks. The daughter of this bulls stand out for type in possibly Australia's largest red herd other than Treeton Illawarras in South Australia. The Aussie Red breed will get better functional from using some Holstein genetics in the breed. The Illawarra guys have been down this track and have gained consistency of type from this but are trying to shut the door on the use of Holstein genetics or limit it. Darryl it is funny but a bull called Badger in the GA Jersey Proven bulls just happens to throw real showy type cows that hust happen to be efficient cows as well. Beaulands could have showed there animal in the Illawarra ring if they wanted to all they had to was appendix the cow in the Illawarra herd book, just like the bull ARBHADDIN is an Illawarrra registered bull that had to be registered as an Aussie Red before he could enter the GA PT team this year. The issue is that in both societies can can up with all the petty reasons on why an amalgamation can't happen or shouldn't happen. If people pull there head out then you may actually see the very similarities of each breed society and the issues that stop a potential amalgamation dont seem to hard. The ownly winner in this is the Holstein breed, because a united red cow population of substantial size has the potential to create a genomic base and use science and commonsense to breed effecieny quicker.
